Upon A day in May,joy and sorrow met besides a lake.They greeted one another,and they sat down near the quiet waters and conversed.Joy spoke of the beauty which is upon the earth,and of the daily wonder of life in the forest and among the hills ,and of the songs heard at dawn and eventide.
And sorrow spoke ,and agreed with all that Joy had said ;for sorrow knew the magic of the hour and the beauty thereofAnd sorrow was eloquent when he spoke of May in the fields and among the hills.
And Joy and sorrow talked long together,and they agreed upon all things of which they knew.
در یکی از روزهای اردیبهشت شادی و غم در کنار دریاچه ای همدیگر را دیدند به هم سلام دادند و کنار آب های آرام نشستند و گفت و گو کردند.شادی از زیبایی های روی زمین گفت از شگفتی های هر روزهء زندگی در دل جنگل و در میان تپه ها و از آوازی که سپیده دمان و شامگاهان شنیده می شود .آنگاه غم سخن گفت و با هر آنچه شادی گفته بود موافقت کرد زیرا غم جادوی آن لحظه و زیباییش را می فهمید.غم هنگامی که از زیبایی ماه اردیبهشت در مرغزار و در میان تپه ها سخن می گفت بیانی شیوا داشت.شادی و غم زمانی دراز سخن گفتند و در بارهء هر آنچه که می دانستند با هم تفاهم داشتند
