Turkish Publisher to Collaborate With Iranian Children's Writer

An expert from a book authored by Iranian Children's writer Mojgan Sheikhi will be published in Turkish and English by the Turkish publishing company Times in the near future .Twenty-five stories from "Three-hundred and sixty-Five stories for the nights of the year" have been selected for the project,sheikhi told the persian service of ISNA on monday.A number of the stories from the book have also been chosen for TV program "Good night children" which is scheduled to be aired by IRIB's Channel 2 .In addition ,Hemedan's local TV station plans to produce some animated films based on stories from the book.Sheikhi is the author and translator of over 80 books.The cow of No Color by Nina Jaffe and steve Zeitlin and some other works by Ruth Ainsworth are among the books translated into persian by Sheikhi.She has authored "The Golden-Beak Nightingale<" Looking for Bahareh," 'Tails Shop' "small people" and several other books.

Mir-Emad's Masterpiece to Go On Display at London Show

One of the best masterpieces by celebrated persian calligrapher Mir-Emad is to go on display at a London show next month Endowed with great talent,creativity ,and delicacy in art ,Mir Emad was the titan of the nastaliq script (an Iranian style of calligraphy).The exhibition of safavid artwork is organized with the collaboration of the National Museum of Iran and Britain ,the Sadabad Historical Complex director Eshrat Shayeq told the persian service of ISNA on last sunday. Shayeq added that the 20*30 cm masterpiece is a calligraphy work inscribed by Mir- Emad on a Kashmiri piece of paper in the 17th century along with a beautiful decoration in the margin and is considered one of the best works by the master.The masterpiece is being preserved at Mir- Emad Museum in the Sadabad complex Shayeq said adding that the piece was unveiled at the Mir-Emad Museum on the occasion of 400th birth anniversary of the calligrapher in 2005,and has so far has been displayed in several Iranian and international exhibits.Iranian artist and calligrapher Mohammad ibn Seyfi Qazvini (1553-1615)is known as Mir-Emad .It is believed that calligraphy in Nastaliq script reached its peak of magnificence in Mir Emad's works and current practice of nastaliq closely follows his manner.After completing his studies in the fields of science and calligraphy in his hometown Qazvin,he traveled to Tabriz and the Ottoman Empire.He then returned to Iran,serving in the court of Shah Abbas Safavi,and was later murdered in 1615 at the behesht of Shah Abbas.The tomb of the famed calligrapher is located in the small courtyard of the Maqsud-Bayk Mosque in Isfahan

Iran to Honor US Scholar Carl Ernst

Iran's Ministry of science Research and Technology is set to pay tribute to American scolar of sufism,professor Carl .W.Ernst.The north Carolina University professor of religious studies will be awarded the farabi International award for his 1996 book on Ruzbihan Baqli ,the 12th century persian poet. Ernst's book has been translated into persian twice and is widely used in Iranian universities.Ernst attended a conference in Iran earlier this month,during which he called for increased academic and cultural cooperation between Iran and the U.S .American Mowlavi expert,William Chittick and George Washington university lawyer,Miriam Galston will also be honored during the ceremony.Carl W.Ernst is an expert in Islamic studies,who has conducted extensive research into Islam and sufism.His recent book,Following Muhammad: Rethinking Islam in the Contemporary World has received several international awards,including the 2004 Bashrahil prize for outstanding cultural Achievement.
